Diving for Cypress

River logging can be one of the most frightening experiences of your life. To river log we use diving gear and plunge to the depths of up to 100 feet in search of these sunken treasures. The water is very dark, most of the time I can not even see my hand right in front of my face. Zero visibility sharing the same water with many fresh and salt water predators.
History
Did you know that, in the year 4,000 B.C., Indians were using cypress to build homes, tools, and dugout canoes?Did you know that, in the year 3,000 B.C., Egyptian's used cypress in mummy cases?
Welcome to Recovered Hollow Log
Recovering Pre-Cut Timber From the Rivers and Lakes of Florida.
Hello friends. Welcome to Recovered Hollow Log. We are a family of Deadhead loggers, and we recover pre-cut timber from the rivers and lakes of Florida. So come join us for a step back in time as we give you the history behind these ancient logs and the methods the old timers used to get them as far back as 300 years ago,and show you the way we do it today. Our logging operation is Eco friendly as we recover pre-cut timber and recycle them. No live trees are cut to produce our products. All of our wood is at least 200 years old and some even thousands of years old. Our goal is to not only supply you the customer with one of a kind Cypress wood products, but to do so in a way to teach you the history behind this ancient wood before it is completely extinct.

Recent years have increased the demand for Deadhead logs by the specialty lumber industry. Preserved underwater for more than a century, these logs are prized for their dense heartwood, bright colors and fine grain. This wood is especially desirable for high end decking, flooring, paneling, furniture, molding and more. Much of the old growth Cypress harvested in the 19th and 20th century were between 200 and 3,500 years old. And because these slow growth trees were never replanted by the old timers. The new growth trees are not mature enough to provide the same heart wood content, the very dense growth ring or the brilliant color as its predecessors. The only sources today of old growth Cypress are from timber salvaged from old buildings and Sinker Cypress logs recovered by Deadhead loggers.
Modern society regarding deadhead logging has made it a more ecologically friendly practice. The government has taken many steps to protect the environment and require those who pull Sinker logs to purchase permits and practice certain environmentally friendly methods of recovery to minimize negative impact on the environment. Some Floridians feel we have a sacred bond with Cypress and the environment in which they inhabit and feel they are a part of our culture and ecological history.
